The Vianna da Motta Foundation was established in 1995 by Sequeira Costa. The Foundation a non-profit organization which serves as a parent-like entity to the Vianna da Motta International Music Competition, the VMF record label and historial archives.

The Competition, established by Sequeira Costa in 1956 is held triennially and has been a member of the World Federation of International Music Competitions since 1966. Former prizewinners include Naum Shtarkman, Nelson Freire, Vladimir Krainev, Victoria Postnikova, Ida Kavafian, Artur Pizarro and Tao Chang.

The record label releases CDs related to Vianna da Motta the composer, pianist and pedagogue; performances given by prize winners of the Competition and any other relevant music personality with strong ties to Vianna da Motta.

The archives will endeavor to collect writings, correspondence and compositions of Vianna da Motta to be available for research and publication and to document the history of the Competition.
